The theme for the 13th Ancillary Merchandising Conference (AMC) was Engage, Experience and Execute - are we getting it right for customers?

Building on the highly successful 2018 conference (click here if you want to access its presentations) about "Getting ahead in the Digital Age," this year's AMC was focused on how to engage with customers - whether in the direct or indirect channels. Ancillaries and Merchandising are challenged in different ways, depending on the channel. So getting a customer experience that allows customers to easily and consistently buy a range of products and services was central to this year's event. Having a strategy for ancillaries - whether it is classic ones like cars and hotels - or even bags and seats is a first step, but getting the highly siloed organisation to execute is also fundamental. This year tackling the actual delivery of ancillaries was featured. Scroll down to see the presentations from this event available for download.

The theme for the 12th Ancillary Merchandising Conference (AMC) was "Getting ahead in the Digital Age." Ancillary revenue and merchandising rescued the profitability of many airlines and travel retailers. Without the likes of baggage fees, margins of 10% and higher would not have been achieved. But, the airlines and travel companies that will get ahead in our new digital age will be the ones which invest both in generating more ancillary revenues and using those profits to deliver a better customer experience. From giving people more reasons to travel, to making the end-to-end journey an experience to remember, this is all made easier by our increasingly digital world. However, many in the travel industry are not well-placed to take advantage of what digital offers. The Ancillary Mechandising Conference helped participants to understand the opportunities in digital– from automated commerce to how to drive people to all of your products and services.

Co-Brand 2017 was the third annual event dedicated to best practices for co-branding credit cards and for forging co-branded credit card relationships. The co-brand market is particularly interesting in 2017 with the world's three largest co-brand cards, those of the three largest US airlines, reportedly seeing a major decline in approved applications. Is this a harbinger of things to come for other co-brands? Are the banks' own travel cards to blame? What is the future of co-branded credit cards?

This partnership-driven conference discussed these issues and many more related to co-branding. Scroll down to see the conference presentations available for downloading.

Low Cost Carriers (LCC's) are widely perceived as having led the airline merchandising revolution, but the rest of the industry has caught-up. Now, as every airline and travel company looks to the future, the challenge becomes "Are you bold enough?" With legacy carriers like British Airways and LATAM charging for onboard food and other ancillaries, the brand lines between LCC's and "traditional" airlines are blurring. With every ancillary now on the table, now is the time to re-examine everything. "Are you bold enough?" to rise to these challenges was the theme of the 11th Ancillary Merchandising Conference (AMC) held in Palma, Spain. Perseuss is the global travel industry's own response to the problem of fraud. The origins of Perseuss are from a small group of seven European airlines in 2007 needing to share experiences and data about fraudsters' operations and to work together to identify and action new fraud patterns appearing throughout the travel industry. Perseuss has since grown to be a global community of more than 100 airlines, travel agents and rail carriers, all committed to share fraudulent data and experiences.

This closed-door meeting was open not exclusively for Perseuss Users, but also for Fraud Prevention and Payment Experts of all airlines, travel agencies, online travel agencies, railway companies and other businesses worldwide who were interested to learn more about sharing fraud data and travel fraud prevention in general.

Photo: Barcelona - venue city for the 2015 9th Ancillary Merchandising Conference

With IATA's New Distribution Capacity (NDC), the industry is now one step closer to delivering more personalised travel. So, will 2015 be the year when "Big Data" combines with the promise of NDC to deliver the right product to the customer at the right time across any channel? Or will the drop in oil prices see the industry take its focus off the revenues driven from ancillaries and merchandising? To address these issues, the 9th Ancillary Merchandising Conference theme was "The Personalisation Summit."

This conference brought together stakeholders responsible for ancillary revenue generation to discuss the latest trends, best practices, actionable strategies and insights. Scroll down this page to see the conference presentations found in blue with a chevron.

STOP PRESS: The 2017 ATPS Asia-Pacific Conference will take place in Bali, Indonesia from 29-31 August 2017. Block your Calendar!

With the Asian travel market forecasted to grow to $155 billion in 2017 and with half of that purchased online, the challenges facing the region's travel providers are getting more complex. Additionally, as penetration of smartphones rapidly outstrips other global regions, balancing a good customer experience with fraud prevention has become critical - and doing so in every channel cost effectively is now a key business objective. In the face of this fast-changing travel industry landscape in Asia-Pacific, this year's conference theme was Asia's Digital Payments Revolution. This conference, held in Kuala Lumpur, examined how digital innovation can be embraced to deliver for travellers, while also driving down payment costs for airlines and travel companies.
