Frank Socha, a pricing and distribution pioneer, recently made the transition from his successful consulting practice to ATPCO in 2008 to become the Regional Director for the EMEA regions.

Frank began his impressive 30 years in the airline industry at Lufthansa German Airlines, where he worked in Pricing, Revenue Management and Data Distribution. Based on his broad system knowledge, Frank was seconded by Lufthansa to serve as Manager for Product Definition, Input/Output Design and Sales & Marketing of the Amadeus Fare Quote System at its inception in 1988.

Returning to Lufthansa in 1995, Frank implemented that airline's data distribution unit, as its Head of Production, later joining Lufthansa Systems, as Sales Executive for EMEA. In 2002, Frank became the Director, Tariff Industry Affairs, at IATA. In 2004 he founded Airline Solutions, a consultancy focused on delivering solutions for Pricing, Distribution, eTicketing and Business Process Management. Frank joined ATPCO in the Spring of 2008.

Mitch is recognized as a thought leader in e-commerce payments and risk management and has served many of the world’s preeminent multi-national e-commerce and technology companies over his 22 year career. As Managing Director of Curaxian, LLC, he provides strategic and operational advisory services in global payment processing that result in efficient, reliable and scalable approaches to the management of e-commerce payment operations and fraud risks.

Prior to founding Curaxian, Mitch led the worldwide launch of online shopping capabilities for Microsoft Corporation; built the risk management team and system for Ingenio; directed global payment and risk management operations and strategy for Yahoo!, Inc.; and led the global payment and risk management strategy for WebEx Communications. His experience includes technology, e-commerce and payments concerns throughout North America, Asia Pacific, United Kingdom and Europe, and Latin America. Recent consulting engagements have included American Express, IBM, Netflix, Cisco Systems, Richemont Brands, Hotwire, Beatport, Second Life, and Official Payments.

Mitch holds an MBA from The University of Washington and a BA in Finance and Economics from The University of Western Ontario. Jan-Jaap Kramer

After thirteen years of working in the supermarket industry (Vendex, Ahold), Jan-Jaap Kramer started at Martinair as the Manager Cashier Department in 1999. Next to managing the daily affairs of this department, Jan-Jaap is responsible for all processes involving credit card payments around the world.

Shortly after he succesfully implemented a global credit card payment platform at Martinair, ecommerce started to become exceptionaly important for the company. And with ecommerce, of course, came credit card fraud. Starting from scratch Jan-Jaap created working methods resulting (in 2008) in less than 2 out of every 100 tickets purchased by fraudsters being missed by the screening. Realizing fraud is truly not an isolated issue, Jan-Jaap is actively seeking collaboration with other airlines and third parties to share best practices, ideas and more. Jan-Jaap lives and works in The Netherlands.

Doug Schwegman, Director of Market and Customer Intelligence, Cybersource

Doug Schwegman

Nine years as chief architect of CyberSource's annual survey of internet fraud have given Doug Schwegman a unique insight into the impact of eCommerce fraud on the American economy. He has been quoted in scores of industry, general business, and news media outlets on a diverse array of eCommerce fraud-related topics, including financial implications of the problem, most popular fraud detection tools and measures, chargeback strategies, and industry best practices for fraud prevention. He has spoken on these topics to a variety of organizations, including the U.S. intelligence community, the Merchant Risk Council, NACHA, the Electronic Payments Association, and the International Conference on Operations and Fulfillment.

Mr. Schwegman has served as CyberSource Corporation's Director of Customer and Market Intelligence since 2000. Prior to CyberSource, Mr. Schwegman was a senior consultant at International Planning and Research, an international marketing consulting firm, supporting clients such as IBM, HP, and Microsoft, with market intelligence and analysis on the Asia Pacific region. He worked in worldwide market intelligence for Apple Computer for 13 years both in the U.S. and in Europe. Mr. Schwegman holds a BA and MBA from Southern Illinois University and a Masters of International Management from the Garvin School of International Management - Thunderbird.

David Britton, Senior Vice President of Product Management, 41st Paramater

David Britton

Mr. Britton is responsible for overseeing development and management of all 41st Parameter products and the company's engineering functions. As one of the very first Internet fraud investigators he played central roles in the development of cutting edge fraud prevention technologies with several leaders in the eCommerce space including OnSale.com and Egghead.com. He brings a wealth of experience to his current position and a unique insight into the criminal methodology behind Internet payment fraud.

At OnSale and Egghead, Mr. Britton was responsible for significantly reducing and maintaining some of the lowest fraud loss numbers since the companies' inception. And at a time when most merchants had not yet contemplated fraud prevention tools, he was already encouraging the implementation of an expert investigative team and the creation of systems and processes to combat fraud.

Prior to joining 41st Parameter, Mr. Britton was a private consultant to various fraud prevention enterprises and the former director of training at CrediView, Inc., where he developed Internet fraud prevention training courses for merchant fraud and customer service teams. He has been a featured speaker at industry events, and has authored numerous papers concerning anti-fraud measures.

Mr. Long is a recognized expert on card-not-present fraud. He is a frequent speaker on the subject and has addressed the issues faced by air carriers at a variety of global airline industry events organized by Airline Information, International Air Transport Association, Airlines Reporting Corp., ATA and the Computerized Airline Sales and Marketing Association. With nearly 20 years experience in accounting, fraud investigation and fraud prevention, he understands the issues facing airlines in combating CNP fraud. He has been a key figure in the re-engineering of Spirit into an Ultra Low Cost Carrier and constucting the Caribbean & Latin America network since joining the company in 2005. Jay Sorensen, President, IdeaWorks

 

 

 

 

Jay Sorensen's research and reports have made him the world's leading authority on the ancillary revenue movement. Recently he was chairman of the first conference dedicated to the topic of ancillary revenue. This event, co-developed by Airline Information, was a resounding success. More than 240 airline executives and ancillary revenue vendors from all over the world attended the Frankfurt conference.

Mr. Sorensen is a veteran management professional with 22 years experience in product, partnership and marketing development. As president of the IdeaWorks consulting firm, he has enhanced the generation of airline revenue, started guest loyalty programs and co-branded credit cards, developed products in the service sector, and helped start airlines and other travel companies.

His career includes 13 years at Midwest Airlines (formerly Midwest Express) where he was responsible for marketing, sales, customer service, product development, operations, planning, financial analysis and budgeting.

Martin has been working with internet distribution since the late 1990's, intially with banking products, and in more recent years specialising in airline industry direct sales with Amadeus. His previous role included managing the online commercial relationship with selected network carriers in Europe and Asia-Pacific, as well was managing the Amadeus commercial relationship with oneworld.

Currently he is responsible for global sales (ex USA) of Amadeus Airline Robotics, a product that automates direct channel back office processes. As the Product Manager of LANPASS (LAN Airlines Frequent Flyer Program), Sebastian is currently responsible to leverage the loyalty value that the FFP reports to the airline, by means of ensuring both an appealing value proposition for LANPASS members and also an effective award management mechanism.

Sebastian joined LAN Airlines in 2006, after having served as associate analyst at RAND Europe in Cambridge, U.K, and then at Steer Davies Gleave (London & Santiago de Chile) working in transport-related projects. Sebastian holds an MSc in Discrete Choice Modelling at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where he occasionally teaches Econometrics. He has done a significant contribution to the field of discrete choice modelling, publishing several papers related to this topic.

Vikram Raman, Sr. Manager Ancillary Revenue, Spirit Airlines

As the senior manager of ancillary revenue for Spirit Airlines, Vik Raman is responsible for leading the ultra low cost carrier’s ancillary revenue efforts and is a driving force for the airline’s business development focusing on increasing non-ticket sales. As such, Raman has developed and successfully implemented numerous strategies to effectively manage expectations and gain more of each customer’s overall spend.


Since joining Spirit Airlines in 2006, Raman has been instrumental in growing the carrier’s non-ticket sales by 300 percent and also manages the airline’s FREE SPIRIT customer loyalty program, which has grown to nearly two million members since its launch in February 2006. In addition, Raman developed and oversees Spirit’s $9 Fare Club, manages the FREE SPIRIT credit card relationship with MasterCard, and supervises the airline’s industry partnerships, including Hertz, AIG Travel Guard, and Hotels.com, among other travel-related companies.

James Russell

John Guidon, Co-founder & CEO, Row 44, Inc

John Guidon is a longtime entrepreneur and engineer with an extensive background in both aircraft technology and the internet. John’s career began with consulting roles on airborne electronics for Marconi Space and Defense Systems, then as an engineer for Litton, where he was responsible for navigation elements still used in aircraft today.

John then founded the microelectronics consultancy GME, which he took to $20 million in annual sales and, after 10 years, recast as semiconductor manufacturer ComCore Semiconductor, which he sold to National Semiconductor for $150 million.

Following a successful executive role in National’s networking division, where he achieved annual sales of $100 million, John launched and assisted several internet companies—including a music-distribution and technology firm John took public through a reverse merger, and a company creating a tracking system using GPS, cellular and internet technologies. John then co-founded Row 44 to bring broadband connectivity to the skies.

John graduated with honors in electrical engineering from Imperial College in London.

During his tenure at Worldspan Gianni sponsored, executed and delivered landmark (non mainframe) product sets for Worldspan, including the first ever GDS XML message set in 1999. When Joelle Cuvelier joined Sabre 4 years ago, she brought along 25 years of international Product Marketing experience, having worked in France, UK, Switzerland and the United States.

She currently leads the Product Marketing team responsible for setting Sabre’s product strategy in the areas of Fares and Pricing and Air Merchandising.  This includes identifying emerging trends in airline distribution, shaping global product vision and driving innovation through the ideation of unique technologies and business models designed to support the evolving needs of the Travel Industry .

Prior to Sabre, Mrs. Cuvelier worked at IATA in Geneva, where she had product management  responsibility for BSPlink; an innovative, internet-based system used to facilitate interaction and exchange of information between all participants in the BSP.

From 2000 to 2004, Mrs. Cuvelier held a Portfolio Manager position at Worldspan where she was responsible for various product lines such as Ticketing and Fulfillment, the Worldspan Go!  desktop, Cars and Hotel Applications, etc…

Mrs. Cuvelier started her career in Product Definition at Amadeus in 1988, where she managed a team of product specialists in Miami and Sophia Antipolis, who focused on the design and implementation of Ticketing and Settlement solutions.  Mrs. Cuvelier was part of the core team of IT specialists who contributed to the birth of Amadeus in 1992.

Mrs. Cuvelier holds a Masters degree in Foreign Languages from the International School of Translators and Interpreters (ISTI) in Brussels, Belgium. She resides in Dallas, Texas with her two daughters.

Michael Smith, Director, SeaMountain

 

 

Michael was formerly a board Director of British Airways Global Financial Services Limited. This included responsibility for developing mileage sales with partners such as American Express, GE Insurance, Avis Car Rental and bringing onboard all the brands within InterContinental Hotels and Resorts portfolio.

Early on in this role, Michael recognized that real value could be delivered by BA (and other airlines) by understanding what customers were actually buying. It was more than just an airline seat, many of them wanted a “one stop” shop for the products ancillary to the flight. As a result, BA developed in-depth relationships with many of its Executive Club partners that delivered more benefits to passengers than just miles. It also delivered an additional mulit million pound revenue stream to BA on the back of these ancillary sales.

Prior to joining BA, Michael was the Marketing and Administration Director for the Financial Services Division of Great Universal Stores plc (at the time, the UK’s largest mail order company with 6 million customers.)

Michael is a founding principal of AirlineMarketplace + Partners, a wholly owned division of Airline Information, where he leads the development of ancillary revenue streams for the group's airline customers. He also runs his own consultancy business, SeaMountain. He is based in Glasgow, Scotland where he graduated with an MBA from the University of Strathclyde Business School as well as having professional qualifications in Marketing and Banking from the UK’s Chartered Institute of Marketing and Chartered Institute of Banking respectively.

While Managing Principal for a management consultancy, Adam was entrusted by executives at Fortune 500 firms to solve some of their most important IT challenges, including retail banking which passed through an identical movement that airlines now find themselves entering. Air Meals is his second internet commerce company that he co-founded and led. Academically, he holds two undergraduate degrees in business and an MBA along with honors and distinctions.

Adam lives near San Francisco, California and enjoys outdoors sports, is an active member of his church, and is married with two young children.

Bruce W. Mainzer, Founder, Mainzer Consulting Group

Bruce is a recognized authority on revenue management and currently serves as a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Pricing and Revenue Management. He has over 24 years of experience in the travel industry, serving as Vice President of Marketing of Hyatt Hotels Corporation, and Senior Vice President of Marketing for TravelCLICK. Bruce’s revenue management expertise began at United Airlines where he developed and implemented the airline’s first yield management system. As Vice President of Marketing for Norwegian Cruise Line, he introduced new yield management concepts to the cruise industry, and later extended these concepts to the ski and resort industry as Sr. Vice President of Marketing and Sales at Vail Resorts.

Graham Wareham, GM Product Distribution, Air Canada

Graham Wareham joined Air Canada's Project Management Office in 1997 and initially worked on various Star Alliance projects. He later managed Air Canada's Electronic Ticketing development before being promoted to General Manager, Product Distribution. Graham now has overall responsibility for Air Canada's distribution relationships and is the driving force behind the airlines direct connect initiatives. Prior to Air Canada, Graham spent eight years as a project manager for a military contractor building flight simulators. Miko Snyder, Director, Pricing & Revenue Management, Alaska Airlines

Miko has over 12 years of experience in airline Pricing and Revenue Management. She began her career as a Pricing and Revenue Management Analyst at Midway Airlines and went on to hold various related positions at Delta Air Lines, eventually rising to Team Leader International Pricing. In this role, Miko led a team of 10 analysts responsible for developing Delta's Pricing Strategies in Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. Miko was also Manager of Revenue Management at JetBlue, where she formed and established the Pricing Team and was instrumental in the development of the first-ever all-in-one Pricing tool which allows JetBlue to file fares in ATPCO and OpenSkies.

Miko currently holds the position of Director, Pricing & Revenue Management at Alaska Airlines. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Kenan-Flagler Business School of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

Troy Fernwalt, Managing Director IT - Airline Operations, US Airways

Troy Fernwalt started his airline career with America West Airlines in 1988 as a front line employee, working in Airport Customer Service, Reservations, Inflight and the Training department. He has held a variety of IT leadership roles including Senior Manager IT Strategic Planning, Senior Manager Airport Automation, Director of Sales and Marketing Technology, Managing Director of Airport and Reservations System Technology and currently the Managing Director of Airline Operations Architecture and Systems Development.

Troy holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and a Master’s degree in Computer Information Systems from Arizona State University. He has been a Computer Information Systems Adjunct Professor at a local college since 1995.

James Fahnestock, Director Customer Strategy/Revenue Projects, US Airways

Jim began his aviation career with US Airways in Reservations in 1979. He has held a variety of management positions with US Airways over the course of his nearly 30 year career, including Manager, Reservations Training and Development; Manager, Customer Service Training; Senior Manager, Station Administration/PHX; Director, Passenger Service/PIT; and Director, Passenger Service/PHL.

Jim left US Airways in 2006 to take the position of Director, Customer Service Training and Procedures for FLL based Spirit Airlines. As director, he was responsible for the design and implementation of the “sale of ancillary services” including paying for checked baggage, seat sales and on-board product sales.

In 2008 Jim returned to US Airways to take the position of Director – Customer Strategy/Revenue Projects. He leads project teams through all phases of customer strategy projects related to charging of peripheral service items, such as additional checked baggage, assigned seats and on-board product sales. His work includes requirements definition, business case development, planning and implementation. These projects have realized $160M in ancillary revenue for US Airways in 2008 and projected $400-500M 2009 ancillary revenue.

Jim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Syracuse University.

Steve Arsenault has over 20 years of airline industry experience. He recently joined IBS Software Services as worldwide sales director overseeing the launch of iLoyal. Prior to IBS, Steve held positions at United Airlines, SH&E, and Unisys. This experience includes the development of forecasting models, design of frequent flyer porgams, and numerous system redesigns and implementations. Steve holds BS and MBA degrees from Columbia University and completed all course-work for a doctorate in econometrics at the University of Chicago.

Sergio Mello

Sergio is a young entrepreneur from Torino, Italy. He studied electrical engineering at Politecnico di Torino and soon co-founded WeBrainstorm, an ICT consulting firm where he served as CEO. Raphael Bejar, CEO, Airsavings

Raphael Bejar spent 15 years in the airline industry studying finance and purchasing methodology before creating Airsavings in 2001. Having worked previously with Jet Finance, Credit Foncier, and SH&E, he had the experience and vision to apply group purchasing business models familiar in other industries to both the cost reduction and ancillary services area of airline operations.

Through his company, Mr. Bejar has created cost saving opportunities for low cost and mid-sized airlines heretofore unattainable except by industry giants. Three years ago, he combined his innovative group buying technique with burgeoning web services technology to provide ancillary revenue solutions to those airlines as well. Mr Bejar holds a degree in aeronautical engineering from the ESTACA in Paris and a postgraduate degree in Banking and Finance from Paris University.

Oliver Wallace, Corporate Account Manager, Cathay Pacific

Oliver is currently working as Corporate Account Manager for Cathay Pacific in the UK. Based in London, he describes the airline space as not just his “day job” but also his passion and hobby.

When working for PSA Peugeot Citroen (Europe’s 2nd largest vehicle manufacturer) he developed the concept of a-la-carte fees at workshop level, most notably as an after sales value add proposition which, at that time was a concept far from developed at franchise dealer level in either Europe or the UK.

As Commercial Manager for Peugeot, Oliver worked on the inception and development of the Peugeot loyalty proposition. Airline Loyalty is a subject of which Oliver has particular knowledge and holds his special interest.

Ramsey Nuwar

Prior to joining SkyBuy, he ran his own boutique sales, marketing and onboard service business that worked with the likes of In-flight Sales Group, Jeanie Marshal Foods and the DeSter corporation. He also led the dining and cabin group at MAXjet Airways for two years, developing the onboard service product for innovative, high quality low cost business class service.

Ramsey has had a colorful 25 year airline career beginning as Regional Manager for Europe, North America and Africa for Saudi Arabian Airlines in London where he was involved in the Caterair GCC Cooperation. Ramsey then moved to the U.S. in 1997 as Director of Customer Services for DeSter and later in onboard service development at US Airways.

Duane Worth

Duane's experience in the airline industry has been an asset to Sojern. He is a past president of the Airline Pilots Association, a role in which he represented more than 64,000 pilots working for more than 41 airlines in the U.S. and Canada. He also served on the NWA Board of Directors from 1993-1999. He was chairman of several governmental commissions focused on security and air traffic control modernization. Duane served our country during wartime as a pilot with the U.S. Air Force and the Air National Guard. He earned a master's degree in public administration from the University of Oklahoma and graduated from the University of Nebraska with a bachelor's degree in business administration.

Derek Gerow, Partner, Bain & Company

Derek Gerow

Derek Gerow is a partner in the Dallas office of Bain & Company. He is a leader in both Bain’s Global Transportation Practice and Technology Practice. He joined the firm as a consultant in 1997.

Derek’s work has emphasized corporate strategy and broad-based performance improvement. He has deep industry expertise in airline, travel agency, GDS, hotel, and other travel related areas. Within airlines his focus has been on customer strategy, revenue, distribution, and cost management. Within Technology, Derek has worked across business model strategy, IT outsourcing and supplier management.

Derek earned a Masters in Management with honors from J.L. Kellogg. He is a graduate of Babson College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business with highest distinction. Prior to Bain, Derek advised consumer packaged goods companies on product management, marketing, and sales. Derek lives in the Dallas area with his wife Pamela and their three children, Grace, Jack and Ellie.

Joe is responsible for global business development, sales, and account management functions for Aircell’s new broadband service for the world’s airlines. He has broad travel industry experience coupled with an international perspective developed over 28 years working with airlines, travel suppliers, travel agencies, corporations and technology providers. Joe has 15 years of experience with American Airlines where he focused on operations, revenue management, and e-distribution. With Sabre Holdings, Joe served as Director General (CEO) for the company’s joint venture with AeroMexico and Mexicana in Mexico City and later served in a similar capacity for Sabre’s Canadian business unit in Toronto. He received his MBA with honors in International Management from The University of Dallas and an undergraduate degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University.

Mark Dority, Sr. Director Business Development, the Mallett Group

Mark Dority began his career on the agency side of the marketing business working at Leo Burnett in Chicago but soon found his niche in the airline industry and loyalty marketing with Frontier Airlines.  While under his management the low-cost carrier’s EarlyReturns loyalty program won ‘Program of the Year’ at the 19th Annual Freddie Awards in 2007, along with being named Best U.S. Low-Cost Carrier by the readers of Business Traveler Magazine. Bringing fresh marketing ideas to the airline, Mark introduced new redemption reward options, increased membership by 200% and increased loyalty among top tier members by 23%. He was also instrumental in developing new partnerships that provided additional earn and burn options and increased the value for the membership.

In July 2008, Mark switched gears and currently serves as Senior Director of Business Development for The Mallett Group, an independent consulting firm based in New Milford, Connecticut. The Mallett Group offers access to optimal marketing resources based on specific client needs and business objectives with expertise in relationship marketing, loyalty and retention programs and business development consultant services.

During her 13 years in TACA, Lissette has held positions in pricing and revenue management, with extensive experience in yield management and fare systems.
