INDUSTRY ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Awarded by Airline Information

Winner: Rupert Duchesne, Group CEO, Aimia  -
leader of the first FFP to spin-off

As CEO of Aimia (formerly Aeroplan), Rupert has been at the forefront of some of the most significant developments in all three areas of Mega Event. Be it ancillary revenue, loyalty or co-brand cards, Aimia is leading in all these areas.

Rupert was there at the carve out Aeroplan from Air Canada. We take spin-offs for granted now, but at the time this was a market-leading innovation. Thinking outside of the box, he not only created huge value for Air Canada, but continues to deliver this for the shareholders of Aimia.

His innovation did not stop with the foundation of Aeroplan. He subsequently bought loyalty businesses around the world to add to the loyalty suite of Aeroplan. That development was further enhanced by the strategic purchase of Carlson Marketing to create a “one stop” loyalty shop – be it management, design and deployment, Aimia is well placed to take advantage of our new digital world.

The spin-off and creation of Aimia is a significant industry achievement that is worthy of recognition with this award.

The 2013 judging academy included:
  • Marc Berman is President of The Mallett Group and Executive Chairman of the Co-brand Partnerships Conference track of Mega Event. Mignon is responsible for increasing the positive commercial impact of loyalty strategies for clients across the world. She works closely with airline and travel brands to encourage innovation and motivate more loyal and profitable customer behaviour.
  • Rob Maclean is CEO, Points.com. Rob is an industry veteran having started out at Canadian Airlines.  His experience there lead him to founding one of the most innovative companies in our industry today - Points.com  Not only does points offer an exchange, it is the power behind many of the systems for loyalty programs worldwide. His insights are an additional bonus to this judging panel.
  • Colin Evans is Chairman of The Collinson Group and pioneer in the travel loyalty space, having founded brands such as ICLP, Priority Pass and more recently Collinson Latitude. Colin received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2011 Mega Awards, recognizing his contributions to the industry

As president of the IdeaWorksCompany consulting firm, he has enhanced the generation of airline revenue, started loyalty programs and co-branded credit cards, developed products in the service sector, and helped start airlines and other travel companies. His career includes 13 years at Midwest Airlines where he was responsible for marketing, sales, customer service, product development, operations, planning, financial analysis and budgeting.
  • Sinead Finn is former Director of Commercial Revenue at Ryanair and showed the rest of the industry how to do Ancillary Revenue and fees!
